Ponderings of the day.

Several ponderances of the day. Please excuse my randomness....

1. Driving back from Bakersfield this afternoon, saw an 18 wheeler with the words "It's not a choice, it's a child" painted on the back. Now, I don't want to debate abortion on this blog, I've made up my mind about it and don't want to debate it. But, I haven't made up my mind about how I feel about this freight company's need to advertise their belief on their trucks. I wonder if it has either helped or hurt their business that they have it there. Is this just the equivalent to a bumper sticker? Why are cars such a medium for making such serious statements? I have also wondered this when a car has an "In memory of" sticker on it, denoting the loss of a loved one. What is in memory of the person? The car? You wouldn't have bought a car if that person didn't pass away? I can understand that maybe if there was say a fancy older car you can tell someone fixed up- maybe they were working on it with their dad and their dad passed away. In that case, it makes sense. But otherwise, I mean, what about your Tercel that you have owned for 13 years honors your lost loved one? I don't get it.

2. Gas War sign. This is just a random thought. There is a sign for a gas station on 99 that is literally called Gas War. The sign is square. The word Gas appears directly above the word War on the sign. I couldn't help but think of the irony, because we war OVER gas, not under...

3. I spotted a homeless man (or maybe he wasn't homeless?) I will call him a panhandler.... at 41 and Shaw today. He was jumping around holding a sign that said SMILE. It had a happy face. I couldn't help but laugh. When he saw that I did smile, he immediately flipped the sign to the other side, which said "Why lie, need bud." Sigh.
