Thoughtful Thursday: It's good to be a female in 2008.

My friend Stefanie and I were having a conversation the other day about the way things are in society for women in our generation. We came to the conclusion that we are actually quite lucky. The generation before us really was the first group of women that were expected to be career driven professionals- delaying marriage and having children for the purpose of advancing their career. They were the first generation who really truly could fully take advantage of this opportunity because of the strides women before them had made. However, it started to cause women who chose not to have a career to be looked down upon and stay-at-home moms became the victim of stereotypes. In the generation prior, women who worked were looked down upon and full time working women were out of the norm. Now, as a woman in 2008, I feel lucky that I can have both a career and a family. I can embrace both things domestic (cooking, crafts, child-rearing) and my career (which I LOVE) and not be judged. I feel lucky.
