My Sewing Machine: Paperweight No More!

I finally decided to attempt to sew using the machine I was given for Christmas again last week. I had already written it off as a "dud" machine. Because, of course, if I can't figure out what the problem is, then of course it must be broken, right?

Well, guess what? Apparently human error. (Notice how I say, human error vs. I did it wrong?)

Anyway, thanks to my friend Michelle and her ability to properly read the diagrams in my manual (a dashed line means thread goes UNDERneath) I finally was able to sew something useful.

For my first project, I would like to reveal to you publicly, for the first time: My new pillow covers!Look at me, look at me, I'm new and fresh!^^
Look at me, I'm the old model, and I can't wait to get a new fresh cover!^^
See, I'm about to fray across the edge, like my brother and sister.^^
"Hey, don't hate me cause you ain't me" (new pillow to old)

  1. So cute! You've just inspired me to sew again too! I got a sewing machine for my birthday a few years ago, used it a few times, and then after attempting to rethread the bobbin, decided it had broken. Fast forward a year-and-a-half, when my mom moved to Texas and fixed it in about 2 seconds!!! Oh well--now I can use it! =) By the way--I made your sizzling sirloin stir fry last year--but with actual noodles--and it was delicious!!! Thanks for the recipe!

  2. Good job! I should dig mine out of the bottom of my closet...sewing everything by hand is getting old ;)

  3. Yay for you Natali!! I'm glad you finally conquered the machine. Your first project turned out great. You probably already know this but there is an awesome home decor fabric store out in River Park (in the same area as Mimi's). I get all of my home decor fabrics there. Their pricing is so much better than Joann's and the selection is wonderful. I just thought I would pass that along in case you didn't know about it already.

  4. Very cute Nat! See, I told you you could do it! :D
