Easy DIY: Pretty Jewelry Organizer

For some time I've had a horrible system in place for storing my necklaces and bracelets.  I throw them in one zippered pouch all together in my nightstand. Yup.  Ridiculous.  I spend more time trying to separate one necklace from the others than any human should and it's just plain moronic on my part.

So, when a recent thrifting trip provided me a cork board for just a buck, inspiration struck, and the following SUPER easy DIY project is what was produced.  I hope you enjoy the project and end result.

DIY: Pretty Jewelry Organizer

What you need:
  • corkboard with framed edge
  • spray paint
  • coordinating fabric
  • hot glue and glue gun
  • butter knife
  • thumbtacks

What to do:
1. Tape off the board portion of your corkboard with newspaper so only the frame is exposed, in a well ventilated area (think open garage, trust me!) spray paint the frame the color or your choice. (I used Krylon Indoor/Outdoor spray paint in Blue Ocean Breeze, gloss finish).  Do one thin coat, allow to fully dry (10 minutes) then do a second thin coat and allow one hour to fully dry.

2. When the frame is dry, remove tape and paper.  Cut your coordinating fabric so that it is about 1/4-1/2 inch larger than the board part of the corkboard on all sides.

3. Dot hot glue on multiple places of the board to tack the center of your fabric down and smooth the glue under the fabric.

4. Use a butter knife to tuck the fabric edges under the frame between the cork and frame itself so no fabric edges show.

5. Hang the board in your house, and place thumbtacks as needed to hang your necklaces and bracelets.

  1. LOVE this!! And so easy... I might actually be able to DO it!!

  2. Alison, I PROMISE you SO can! ;-)

  3. I really like this too. I'll have to make one soon! =)

  4. So cute! How do you have so many GREAT ideas?!

  5. Oh, I love this idea! I made one of those jewelry cakestand holders (where you glue a plate to a candlestick) and it turned out really cute, but my necklaces still get all tangled. I'll have to make one for my necklaces/bracelets! Thanks for sharing. :-)
