In my makeup bag.

It's always fun to learn about the products others fall in love with, so I thought I'd add my own personal daily make-up favorites to the blogosphere.  Some items are a bit on the pricier side, but always prove their worth, and a few a fabulous finds that are very budget friendly and need no pricier replacement, as they do the job perfectly.

Without further delay, my favorite daily cosmetic products:
The whole kit and caboodle.

1. Jergen's Natural Glow Healthy Complexion Daily Face Moisturizer ($7.99)
This lotion is great because it's both a gradual self tanner and a sunscreen in one.  It doesn't make my skin oily and it adds just enough color to make my face look healthy and have my make up blend together well.  One tube lasts me 3-4 months with daily use.
2. Tarte Clean Slate Natural Face Primer ($30)
I've tried other primers, but I always come back to this one.  This product is one of the most expensive products in my arsenal, but it makes my skin super smooth, the tone even and makes pores seem to blur to invisibility.   It truly is a miracle and I love that it's made with only natural ingredients.  One tube lasts about 3 months with daily use.  It truly is a hard working product and I think everything else comes out better when I use this primer first.
 3.  MAC Fix+ Mist ($18)
This mist contains CAFFEINE people.  CAFFEINE!  Caffeine in your body- awesome.  Caffeine for skin, also awesome!  Caffeine, along with green tea, natural spring water and whatever other magical ingredients MAC threw in- this spray is a powerful mixture.  You can spray it over your face before you put on your make up, spritz your face midday for a pick me up (your skin plumps slightly, fine lines are less obvious and your make up looks refreshed) or, my favorite use- you can spray it on the brush you use to apply/blend your foundation.  One bottle has lasted me 8 months and is still 1/3 full.
 4. MAC Studio Fix Liquid Foundation ($28)
I'll be honest.  I've TRIED many times to find a cheaper alternative to this foundation, and though I've found some that last as long, and some that are almost an exact color match, I can not for the life of me find a budget version that comes in the same shade AND lasts as long.  I spent more money buying and trying less expensive foundations than I would have just replacing the MAC foundation I know for a fact works well for me.  So, I will stick with what works.  Studio Fix liquid gives a nice, matte, full coverage finish and is long wearing.  The color selection is wide, and unlike some less expensive brands, the shades have a bright, healthy tone to them, not a gray or ashy undertone.  One bottle of foundation lasts me approximately three months.
 5. MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation ($24)
This was the first MAC product I purchased, about 12 years ago, and since that FIRST compact, I've never switched to another brand.  This powder foundation does SUCH a great job of making my face perfectly matte and even and give full enough coverage to mask blemishes easily.  One compact lasts me at least six months, even using up to twice daily (in the morning, and maybe a night time/afternoon touch up).
6. Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder ($28)
Oh how I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bronzer!  The shade is PERFECT in that it's not too pink, definitely not orange, doesn't make you look like a terra cotta pot was smashed on your face (you KNOW you've seen that look, admit it) it's just a gorgeous, natural shade of tan that's flattering on everyone.  The powder is super fine and blendable, very light (it's not shimmery, so if you're looking for a gleam in your bronzer, this wouldn't be your best bet) and it lasts well over a year even with daily use.
7. MAC Blush in "Pinch o' Peach"($16?)
This is one of those things that you could probably sub out a budget blush on, this was a random retail therapy splurge purchase for me, but the color is great, the powder is light and sheer and the product itself lasts forever.  I've had this blush 10 months now, and it's probably got at least that much life left in it still, even with daily use.
 "The Trifecta" ($14 per shade)
Eyeshadow is one thing I tend to change up fairly frequently, it's fun to experiment with color combinations and brands.  However, I'll share with you my current favorite color combination.  I LOVE how well these three colors blend together.  All three colors are MAC shadows, which yes, are a bit pricey, BUT, they last FOREVER.(Case in point- I've had the Satin Taupe shade for ELEVEN years now.  No joke.  Albeit I haven't been using it daily, but it's in perfect condition still and I've been using it a ton over the past few months.)  I really like using "Girlie" on my lids as a base shade, then using "Satin Taupe" in the crease and blending from crease to brow with "Kid".  Kid is the BEST blending shade I've found so far and no matter what combination of shadows I'm using, I almost always use it to blend the crease area into the brow area- it's super flattering (appears darker in the photo than in real life) and works with any combination of colors.  I've had it over a year now, I've still got plenty left, and I use it every. single. day.
8. Maybelline Falsies Mascara ($5-7)
This mascara is just AWESOME!  I've been using it since it came out and I LOVE it!   The formula doesn't smudge or flake, it's not too crunchy on lashes (nor does it stay gooey) the brush is super easy to maneuver and quickly builds volume.  All around GREAT mascara.  Seriously.  No need to spend more. (Note: I've tried Badgals from Benefit, Diorshow, Lancome Definicils, Estee Lauder's Magnascopic- Falsies is better in my honest opinion.)
9. Urban Decay's Primer Potion Shadow Base ($18)
I received this free with my Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow palette, and have been using it ever since.  It lasts a really long time as I just have the tiny trial sized bottle, and I've been using it daily since January.  I think it really does keep my shadow in place all day long.  Good product overall.
10. Maybelline Line Stiletto Liquid Liner ($5-7)
This liquid liner gives you great control of application with it's easy to use felt tip marker like "brush".  You can easily make a thick or thin line and it lasts all day long.  This product is a true workhorse of liners and I love it!
11. Sephora's Retractable Brow Pencil in Nutmeg Brown ($12)
I can not tell you how glad I am to have found this brow liner.  For YEARS I used a super overpriced pencil from another brand because I couldn't find another that offered the right shade or consistency (many were too waxy, color wasn't concentrated or was smudgy, the tip was too wide and didn't make a precise line, or the blonde shades were ashy gray or reddish).  For less than half the price of the stupid pencil I previously bought for years, Sephora's store brand retractable liner is a WONDERFUL alternative and I absolutely love it!

Last, but not least- my favorite lip gloss EVER.
MAC's "Gaga Pink" Lipglass ($14.50)
This gloss is the perfect shade of baby pink.  Not too bright, not too sheer, not to opaque- just perfect.  The thing that kills me, is that of course, as with every lip color I've ever loved, it's a limited edition shade (ugh!) so I'm not sure how long it will be available.  I know it's already been out for about a year now, and MAC has released a second Gaga shade, so my guess is the pink shade's days are numbered.  I haven't found the gloss in stores recently, but it is still available on MAC's website.

  1. Heeeey, we are make up twinsies (in a few ways)! :) I live for Jergens lotion...use it every other day. And I hear you on the MAC studio fix foundation - I've tried to find a cheaper alternative, too, but I've decided that since I love it so much and it lasts so ridiculously long, that I can't feel bad about it. ;)

And I'm a Hoola girl, too! Love it.

  6. I LOVE hearing about new makeup products even though I don't use makeup every day. I'll be looking in to a lot of your items, especially the eyeshadow trifecta you mentioned. Been eyeing Satin Taupe for a while too. This might just be the push I need.
